Kieran O'Hare is a Brooklyn-based multimedia artist. Infographics, iterative narrative, and memory in the internet age are the real subject, while his pictures, both paintings and animated, are cluttered with stock characters, tropes, and memes. While he has worked in standard narrative animation, his static and recursive work suggests storytelling without apotheosis. His earlier work spoke the visual language of maps and charts while eschewing direct interpretation -- ciphers that cannot be decoded. His recent work is similarly opaque -- character actors and dramatic stagings, often culled from internet meme-culture -- that remain steadfastly inscrutable -- precariously balanced but resolutely unresolvable.
Kieran’s has created and directed animated work that has appeared on Adult Swim, MTV, and VICE among others. He’s screened work at the Rooftop Film Festival, LA Film Fest, and has curated his animations for opening “bumper” screenings at independent theaters around the country. His works on canvas and paper have featured in Art on Paper, the Affordable Art Fair, and his solo show, The Lava Log opens in Tribeca in May 2023. He is represented by Jonathan Miller Spies Fine Art.
